From Sample to Bulk Production: A Malaysia Cleanroom Undergarment Case Study

Choosing the right cleanroom undergarment is not only about fabric composition. For employees who wear cleanroom clothing for long working hours, fabric weight, comfort, fit, and garment details can all make a difference.

In February 2026, a Malaysian manufacturer of cleanroom consumables contacted JSJM through our website with a requirement for cleanroom underwear for employees working in a cleanroom environment.

The project started with a specific fabric requirement and went through two rounds of sampling before entering bulk production. When the customer later needed the order urgently, JSJM also adjusted the production schedule and completed the order in just 20 days.

The Customer's Initial Cleanroom Undergarment Requirements

During the first discussion, Rose, the customer's purchasing manager, provided a reference fabric specification.

The customer was looking for:

  • 100% polyester fabric

  • 1/2 twill construction

  • Around 117 gsm

  • Dark blue color

  • Good moisture-wicking performance

The garments were intended for regular use by employees inside a cleanroom, so the customer wanted a balance between the required fabric properties and wearing comfort.

Based on the available fabric options, JSJM recommended a few alternatives.

For the dark blue requirement, we suggested a 180 gsm four-way stretch fabric. We also recommended a lighter 110 gsm sky-blue fabric as another option.

At this stage, the customer preferred the darker color and decided to use the 180 gsm fabric for the first sample.

First Sample: Good Construction, But Too Heavy

For the first sample, the customer selected a standard JSJM design: a pullover two-piece cleanroom clothing set.

The original design included:

  • Elastic cuffs at the wrists

  • Elastic openings at the ankles

  • Elastic waistband

  • A 4–5 cm white fabric patch sewn onto the left chest for the employee's name

After the sample was completed, the customer arranged for employees from the actual user department to evaluate it.

The feedback was straightforward: the garment was too heavy.

This feedback changed the direction of the project.

Although the 180 gsm fabric met the customer's original preference for a darker color, it was not the most comfortable option for employees who would wear the garment regularly.

Rather than simply following the original specification, JSJM discussed the feedback with Rose and reviewed the lighter fabric option again.

Second Sample: Lighter Fabric and More Comfortable Details

For the second round of sampling, Rose provided a reference size chart so the garment measurements could be adjusted more accurately.

At the same time, the customer's user department agreed to try the 110 gsm sky-blue fabric.

Several other details were also changed:

  • 110 gsm sky-blue fabric replaced the 180 gsm dark fabric

  • The neckline was changed to a three-metal-snap closure

  • White knitted cuffs were changed to dark blue knitted cuffs

  • The ankle rib cuffs were removed

  • Measurements were adjusted according to the customer's size chart

These changes made the garment lighter and better suited to the employees' daily use.

After two rounds of sampling, both sides confirmed the fabric, accessories, workmanship, measurements, and design details.

The sample was approved and the project moved into bulk production.

An Urgent 20-Day Production and Delivery Schedule

After the bulk order was confirmed, Rose brought up a new challenge: the garments were needed urgently.

The customer's user department was waiting for the workwear, so the original production schedule needed to be shortened.

Tina from JSJM coordinated with the production team and reorganized the production schedule to meet the customer's requested delivery time.

In the end, the complete order was produced and delivered to the customer's address in Malaysia in only 20 days.

This was around half of the normal production and delivery time for a standard bulk order.

Shortening the lead time did not mean removing the agreed product requirements. The confirmed fabric, construction, sizing, and garment details still needed to be followed throughout production.

Positive Feedback After Delivery

After receiving the finished reusable cleanroom garment, the customer's employees started using the garments in their daily work.

The feedback was positive, especially regarding the wearing experience of the lighter 110 gsm fabric.

For this project, the final product was not simply based on the original specification. It was developed through communication between the purchasing team, the actual users, and the manufacturer.

This helped JSJM find a better balance between fabric requirements, garment design, and user comfort.

Following the successful delivery and use of the garments, Rose's team has already started a new purchasing process with JSJM.
